"Far from the Madding Crowd"

Made for a good movie but not sure I need to read the book (never say never). Swear I saw the earlier Julie Christie version, though I didn't remember the storyline a bit.

Far From the madding crowd's ignoble strife
Their sober wishes never learn'd to stray;
Along the cool sequester'd vale of life
They kept the noiseless tenor of their way.
