Helen Sear (born 1955) is a photographic artist based in Wales , UK . Career Sear studied Fine Art at Reading University and University College London, Slade School . In the late 1980s she worked primarily through installation , performance and film. Her photographic works were included in the 1991 British Council exhibition "De-Composition: Constructed Photography in Britain", [ 2 ] which toured Latin America and Eastern Europe . In 1993 she received an Abbey Award at the British School at Rome . [ 3 ] She won joint first prize for visual art at the National Eisteddfod in Wales in 2011, [ 4 ] and was the recipient of an Arts Council of Wales Creative Wales Award to develop new work. [ 5 ] Ffotogallery , Wales' national agency for photography published her first major monograph in 2012, Inside the View , [ 6 ] which was nominated for best international photography book at Photo Espana. Saw this when we landed (along Garibaldi), but never got back to see the Art. Sorry, Helen (loved the title, though I swear I've heard it before). I've since seen it and more via the Net. 

The Venice Giardini is an area of parkland in the historic city of Venice which hosts the Venice Biennale Art Festival , a major part of the city's cultural Biennale. The gardens were created by Napoleon Bonaparte who drained an area of marshland in order to create a public garden on the banks of the Bacino di San Marco which is a narrow stretch of water dividing the gardens from St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace . The gardens contain 30 permanent pavilions. Each pavilion is allocated to a particular nation and displays works of art by its nationals during the Venice Biennale . Several of the pavilions were designed by leading architects of the 20th century, including Carlo Scarpa and Alvar Aalto . We landed at Biennale and waited for Vanni (our landlord) at Giardini. Most of the time we sat on benches along the tree-lined avenue (heaven) leading to the statue of Garibaldi (see statue and resident turtle below). I strolled in the garden. I kept gazing at the twin campaniles. I didn't know then that Wagner died in Venice. I know now. *
